Wholesale features
Carton displays Shopify’s native B2B data. You configure companies, catalogs, quantity rules and volume pricing in your admin; the theme shows them correctly on every page a price can appear.
What Carton needs from your store. Wholesale pricing, companies and locations come from B2B on Shopify. If your store doesn’t have B2B, none of these features appear and Carton behaves as a standard retail theme — nothing breaks.
Login-gated pricing
Many wholesalers can’t show prices publicly. Turn on Hide pricing from non-wholesale visitors in Theme settings → Wholesale, and prices are replaced with your sign-in prompt for anyone who isn’t a signed-in wholesale buyer.
The gate applies everywhere a price would otherwise appear:
- Product pages, including the sticky mobile bar
- Collection and search result cards
- Product recommendations
- The cart and cart drawer
Turn on Also hide add to cart as well if you want catalogue-only browsing. Leaving it off lets visitors still add items and enquire.
Who counts as a wholesale buyer
A customer signed in to a company account. An ordinary retail customer signing in does not unlock wholesale pricing — that’s the point of the gate. To test it, sign in with a customer attached to one of your companies and confirm the price changes.
Company pricing
Prices come from the catalog attached to the buyer’s company. Carton renders every price through a single component, so a buyer sees their own contract price consistently — product page, collection grid, search, recommendations and cart all agree.
Percentage-off catalogs, fixed price lists and per-variant overrides all display, because the theme asks Shopify for the price the buyer is entitled to rather than the published retail price.
Company and location
With Show company and location on, signed-in buyers see which company and which shipping location their order is for. It answers the two questions multi-site buyers ask most — “which account am I in?” and “where is this going?”
Switching location. Shopify does not currently expose a way for a buyer to change their ordering location from the storefront. Carton shows the location rather than pretending to switch it. Buyers with several locations manage this from their account.
Quantity rules
Set minimum, maximum and increment per variant in your admin. Carton applies them as real constraints on the quantity field, so the buyer’s browser enforces them before the form is even submitted — no “sorry, minimum is 6” after the fact.
| Rule | What the buyer sees |
|---|---|
| Minimum | The quantity field starts at the minimum and won’t go below it, with a note explaining why. |
| Increment | Stepping the field moves by the case size; in-between numbers are rejected. |
| Maximum | The field stops at the maximum. |
Rules are re-checked in the cart, so a quantity edited there is corrected too. Products without rules show nothing extra.
Volume price breaks
Where a catalog defines quantity breaks, the product page shows a price break table: quantity band, unit price, and the saving.
The cart goes one step further. When a line is close to the next break, Carton tells the buyer exactly what it would take — “add 4 more to pay $27.30 each”. That prompt is the single fastest way to lift wholesale order value, and it needs no app.
Turn either off with Show quantity rules and Show volume pricing table.
Restricting pages to wholesale buyers
Sections such as quick order have a Wholesale buyers only setting, which hides them from visitors without wholesale access. Use it for trade-only ordering tools you don’t want retail customers to find.
