Carton documentation

Ordering tools

Wholesale buyers place big, repetitive orders. Carton gives them three ways to do it without walking through forty product pages.

Setting up the pages

Quick order, reorder and request a quote are page templates. For each one:

  1. Go to Online Store → Pages and create a page — for example “Quick order”.
  2. Under Theme template, choose the matching template.
  3. Save, then add the page to a menu in Navigation.

Quick order

A line-by-line form: type a SKU, type a quantity, add another line. SKU fields suggest matches as the buyer types, so they don’t need the code exactly right. Quantity rules apply here too — a product with a case size of 12 steps in twelves on this form as well.

“Add all to cart” submits every line at once.

Pasting a list

With Allow pasting and CSV upload on, the buyer can paste a list straight from a spreadsheet or a purchase order. One entry per line, SKU first and quantity last:

AcceptedReads as
NW-CTN-S-25, 12SKU NW-CTN-S-25, quantity 12
NW-CTN-S-25 12Same — spaces work
NW-CTN-S-25 12Same — tabs work, so copying two spreadsheet columns is fine

Lines that don’t parse, or SKUs that don’t exist, are reported and skipped rather than silently dropped — the buyer is told how many were added and how many were skipped.

CSV upload

Upload CSV takes a .csv or plain text file in the same shape: SKU and quantity per row, no header needed. The file is read in the buyer’s browser and never uploaded anywhere, so there is no file size limit worth worrying about and nothing to configure.

Reorder

The reorder page lists a customer’s past orders with their line counts. Add this order to cart puts every still-available item back in the cart in one action, at today’s prices for that buyer’s catalog.

Items that are no longer available or out of stock are skipped, and the buyer is told how many lines were added.

Request a quote

A contact form for buyers who need pricing before they order. Submissions arrive by email through Shopify’s built-in contact form — there is no app and no third-party form service involved.

Turning a quote into an order. Shopify has no storefront mechanism for converting a quote request into a priced order automatically. Reply to the buyer, then raise a draft order in your admin if you want to send them a payable link. If you need automated quoting workflows, that still needs an app.

Saved lists

Buyers can save a quick order list to reuse later. These lists are stored in the buyer’s own browser, so they stay on that device and are lost if the buyer clears their browser data — they do not follow the buyer to another computer.
